I have been working at Towers Watson full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

The company prides itself on taking care of its associates and it does a decent job. The benefits are good. The freedom and autonomy allow a good work life balance even when there is lots of travel, which can come in spurts or be a constant thing depending on what you're doing. One of the best things is working with terrific people. The firm does interesting research in the HR field and the work we do helps people improve their workday experiences.

Cons

Stress levels can be high. Lower-level salaries don't seem to be competitive (e.g., below consultant). There has been a lot of change recently.

    Pros

TW has a good reputation with clients.

    Cons

TW does not pay well and does not solicit staff input when making decisions that impacts how people work within the organization. This company is not transparent. Management always shocks their staff with new process, systems, and methods that consistently fails. On many occassion, people get so frustrated and causes them to look for greener pastures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff because they are the best asset you have. You have already lost a lot of good people so please take good care of whoever is left in your company.

As 2+ year old merger of WW/TP continues to takes hold, culture clash is still very much evident.

I worked at Towers Watson full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good clients. Good Account Management model. Decent training for junior level. Lots of offices around the world. Good work-at-home policies. Decent technology (windows 7, finally), CEO is very approachable and has delivered excellent results to shareholders.

    Cons

Culture clash between legacy firms is significant, and varies greatly depending on the office and/or practice. WW was very flat, collaborative, open, but consensus driven and slow moving. TP was a very hierarchical partnership, everyone on a need-to-know only basis, and uncollaborative, but faster moving and more sales oriented. Little attention was paid to create a new culture. WW was more wild-west and innovative. TP was more structured and parters ruled. Post merger these two approaches have yet to find a happy middle ground.

LIke any large firm, strategic decisions take forever. Corporate red tape has increased under the cover of a maturing firm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to the underlying culture differences that everyone glossed over during the merger.
