Pros

Most flexible schedule of any employer. Pick up shifts or get time off is never a problem. Tips can be very good depending on the contract property. Ability to grow in the company.

Cons

$3.00/hr starting out at most properties. Huge ladder gap between manager and GSA's. Managers don't genuinely care about hotel patrons or lower staff. Managers create and change new rules seemingly every week. If you take a week or two off, expect the rules/procedures to be different when you return. Tips are generally quite low. I've been fortunate enough to work at a luxury property where tips can range from $10-30/hr on top of the hourly. The overall average at my property comes to about $14/hr. Most properties have to make-up tips for the employees to clear minimum wage.

Advice to Management

Consider employee and patron opinions directly. Communicate full intent clearly. TRANSPARENCY!

    no cap to how much tips you can bring in

    there is usually low pay rate, considering how much revenue is actually brought in

    Pros

    - Some flexibility to make your own schedule.
    - Get to learn many aspects of running a business
    - There's bonus potential (depending on your site)

    Cons

    - Use of personal cell phone for work.
    - Calls happen often in the middle of the night, and need to be dealt with.
    - Work load is too much for the compensation.
    - Often required to help at other sites to the benefit of those managers... getting nothing in return.
    - Long hours are considered a virtue in this company.
    - There's not much respect for work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

    Stop treating others like their work is somehow easier, or inferior to yours. You may very well have a harder job, but that's what you've signed up for. Get rid of the "good-ol'-boys" mentality that seems to be permeating every aspect of this job.
