I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Company is very HR-centric. This makes it extremely employee friendly, but difficult to hold team member accountable for poor performance.

Cons

Low pay. As the big box retail environmental gets more competitive, Toys R Us is stretching the employees very, very thin. Trying to move at a very fast pace, and leaving most of the employees behind in the process.

Current Employee - Store Management Intern in Warwick, RI
Current Employee - Store Management Intern in Warwick, RI

I have been working at Toys ''R'' Us as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Pay is much higher than most other internships
There is little to no hand-holding, intern must desire challenge and have an assertive personality
Intern gets the harsh reality of working in the retail industry

    Cons

Many older people work at Toys "R" Us and they have been there for years which is indicative that the company is slow to promote
Much time is spent at the front end of the store as a cashier if store is under-staffed
Leadership dismisses internship assignments unless intern is persistent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

An internship is intended for students to gain a first-hand glimpse into the reality of their chosen job fields. Being a management internship, this is designed for students to understand the various supervisory roles within the organization. In order for an intern to truly learn all of the aspects of their internship, management should be proactive and organized with a plan of action for the week. Interns should not come in and operate as cashiers and/or floor team members. The internship is designed for students who can take on a leadership role as they have already proven the basic skills.
