Pros

A wide variety of opportunities if willing to travel
Good conditions for wages employees
Some very good managers
Has a long history of finding a way to do anything

Cons

Short Term focus
Lack of quality over arching systems and process - very fragmented
Outsourced IT to India which takes ages to resolve anything
Poorly paid management and supervisory positions henceforth poor quality
Managers consistently asked to aid with tenders/transitions of new contracts which is never reflected in annual salary review

Advice to Management

Understand the business and work on ensuring the contracts are supported

    Pros

    The remaining field staff are knowledgeable and supportive, I liked the varied work outdoors and good customers, the health and safety culture was improving, vans and tools supplied, pay is good depending on job type, I felt that this industry was experiencing growth, the job has many aspects from customer service, technical trouble shooting, physical labor, confined space to working at heights, training is good, job itself is great.

    Cons

    in my opinion and from what I have seen heard and experienced the industry is going down hill fast due to bad contracts made with the client Chorus to secure work but it has come at a huge cost, If this continues then a minimum wage job will be better than this job and I wont look back.

    The above pros will disappear if counter measures are put in place from restructure.

    Advice to Management

    the current contract with Chorus is self destructive to the company and NZ, renegotiate a fair and sustainable contract, secure staff and create sustainability, the current direction of the company has no clear direction, many staff will jump ship, and with the unsustainable staff levels the financial burden will sink Transfield as performance will suffer hence, Chorus will act accordingly.
