I have been working at Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Lots of travel, competitive pay, good benefits, good work life balance (when not traveling), no micromanaging.

Cons

Expat heavy. If you aren't an expat there does not seem to be a lot of room for growth throughout the company. The culture is like a high school where gossip rules conversation throughout the organization. Review process is done very unfair and poorly executed. The company is constantly entering into crisis mode from one problem to the next. Working here can feel like a roller coaster. They do not lay clear career paths out for employees. I never knew where I would be one year to the next.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more job security. Also, layout career paths for high performers.

I worked at Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Initial employee appreciation is good.

    Cons

Process safety issues are neglected such that overall safety procedures are ambiguous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retire older, poorly maintained iron.
Invest much more time and money for proper maintenance and repairs of existing assets.
Invest much more time and money in employees communications (language) training and implement standard 8 hour day work schedules to prevent injuries and HS&E incidents due to workers fatigue and/or hurried production efforts.

I have been working at Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Rig-based employees are encouraged to attend paid training courses during time off. Employees are fully vested in the pension plan after five years with the company. Advancement opportunities are available for many positions.

    Cons

Benefits and pay for rig workers seem to lag behind other companies, resulting in high turnover. Matching 401k contributions are not vested until employees have been with the company for three years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Raise pay to reduce turnover.
