Pros

Notable national clients in both the public and private sectors
Decent locations
Colleagues within office were intelligent and talented

Cons

Work/life balance non-existent
Corporate is too quick to implement change for the sake of change
Lack of support from corporate management
One word: UTILIZATION

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of having a marketing person post an obviously corporate-sanctioned positive review, read the other posts and ask yourselves the obvious questions: Why do employees feel they don't have a healthy work/life balance? Why do employees feel there are not many opportunities for growth within the firm? Why are talented employees leaving? Do you know all of your employees in all of your offices? Do you interact with employees or just dictate?

Lose the attitude of "We sign your paycheck so do what we tell you to do." Every company is out to make a profit but not every company does it by keeping employees under their thumb. Start treating all of your employees as your equal and with respect. Little things like business cards and e-mail signatures. Unless you have a college degree or are in an upper management role, you cannot have your title on your e-mail signature or on your business cards. Really? How much time did you waste coming up with that policy?

The "Information directly from the CEO every two weeks" is boring. Majority of employees scan the document and close it. Since an all-company meeting is out of the question, try a web conference so at least you add somewhat of a personal touch to your communications. Senior management, including the CEO, should visit each office for at least a day to get to know all of the employees and the work going on within each location. If you can find the time to attend golf outings or car races, you can find 44 days out of 365 to visit each office.

    I have been working at Transystems

    Pros

    1) Sufficient opportuites for professional growth
    2) Opportuntiy to work with some very experienced, talented, and smart individuals
    3) With the amount of hours you put in, you will become good at what you do

    Cons

    Individulas are very hard to work with. There is total lack of team spirit, and people forget the common goal , i.e., delevering quality project to the client, and are only worried about satsisfying their personal ego's. Lack of positive and open mindset is evident with the displ;ay of resistance to embrace new software, techniques/skills and change/update the way things are done.

    The corporate and senior management is only bothered about "utilization", and always tries to push employees as much as they can to squeeze out every ounce of "billable" work they can do. The company cares less about employees needs, and doesn't pay any attention to the local office managers advice.

    The company only used to pay from the 45th (billable) hour to certain employees (who do field work), and "required" everybody to work atleast 44 hour weeks (so they could bill thr client, but not pay the employee. Very Cheap!!!). Now that the company also pays for every "billable" hour worked over 40 hours, the management expects you to work atleast 40 hours of "billable" work every week (Holidays, Training, Vacation and sick time are not "billable"). Would not recommend the company to anybody who likes to have a balanced work and personal life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Change your way of managemnt, else you'll loose lot of good people to competetion. Concentrate of paying attention to employees needs, better employee retetntion rate and hence success will both be achieved.

    Offices across the country

    Cons

    Some employees do not want to see change
    Some employees do not want to be held accountable
    Some employees dislike that communication may be in email/newsletter vs. verbal and in person.
    Some employees do not see the need to be consistent across all employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Continue the course. It has worked for years and while there were disappointments, 2010 was a great year in many respects.
