Great co-workers, no job security. There are a few good managers, but most are only out to protect themselves.

Pros

There is a lot of variety in the claims that you handle. Most co-workers all work as a team and treat each other as family.

Cons

High turn over and lack of job security. The expectations are nearly impossible and employees always feel threatened they will go on warning and then be terminated. Many good employees have been let go or left themselves so this creates inexperience or more of chance you will not make the #s. There is not any real formal training by managers. Experienced co-workers try to train, but they can only do so much.

If you are looking for a company with job security, a work/life balance and local management that respects their employees as people, this company and specifically the location is not for you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like employees and not just #s. Give a proper workload and support your people.

    I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time

    Pros

    Good benefits, medical (covered at 90% or greater) , dental, vision, prescription medications pension plan, 4 weeks paid time off per year. Claims system is reliable and adequate to perform the job. The overall culture of the organization is conservative. The dress code is business /casual and most people lean towards business. This place is very corporate so be prepared for the usual politics and games that have to be played in order to improve your standing with the office/company.

    Cons

    This office has some (not all) not so talented supervisors which leaves a lot of talented adjusters, etc without any opportunity for advancement. After working here long enough it is clear that upper management should be aware of the lack of talent in some of their line supervisors, however, I have yet to see them address this issue. Also turnover is relatively high in this office. This should not be the case as the company offers stellar benefits (see pros), It makes no sense to hire so many people and you cannot develop and retain their talent. No bottled water, cups or coffee.

    As previously stated by another poster management should consider filling internal opportunities within.

    Travelers has no regard for loyal baby boomers & chooses to retain novices over employees with seniority.

    Pros

    Great co-workers. It is a good place for young college graduates who are entering the work force.

    Cons

    Most employees who have worked for Travelers for a long time are let go before being able to retire. Hardly anyone retires at Travelers, and those who have are not long-term employees. There is too much unwarranted micromanagement and negativity. The stress caused is unhealthy for most employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get get rid of the salary and ranking scale. Ranking does not encourage teamwork. ALL employees want to feel appreciated and respected. Please keep in mind employees are people & not numbers; they are also consumers. Only concentrating on the numbers encourages dishonesty.
