I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time

Pros

Probably the best hours, benefits, discounts and pay for the actual amount of work that you do. Insurance is a relatively secure industry if you are a performer.

Cons

The work is repetitive and a few months in you can do it with your eyes closed. Company does little to teach operations employees about coverage, which is a disadvantage for communications between underwriting and operations. Managers tell you that the work load is demanding (Read: "A lot of busy work").

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop talent and give them a reason to stay with Travelers. Visible paths for advancement would be nice.

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good opportunity for new college graduates. Ability to learn, develop skills and career progression.
Numerous opportunities in the Field Office and the Home Office for a variety of disciplines within the Insurance industry.

    Cons

Little opportunity for seasoned, well educated employees to impact strategy. Lack of career path/ movement at the 10+ years experience level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better utilize the skill sets of employees to implement strategies. A lot of talent is being underutilized or is not well positioned to support managers. Mangers lacking the experience or background would be well served to have more seasoned members to support their teams.

    Pros

Pro Active towards the insurance industry. Innovative in products. Outstanding Risk Management. Claims Professionals have received endorsements from clients, claimants, attorneys, and auto industry specialists. Provides outstanding employee benefits.

    Cons

Salaries tend to be on the lower pay scale and bonus structure in service and sales is sporadic & criteria changes constantly. Service representatives & Sales Agents training is outstanding. Systems are older and difficult to function effectively with times required. Call Center time structures are inconsistent and unrealistic for amount of data and needs being handled for clients as well as for agents.
