I worked at Travelers Companies full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Travelers seems to be a stable company with a split headquarters in Hartford. Travelers provides competitive benefits. There are many employees who have been there a long time, and still have good values and work attitudes.

Cons

Employees are over worked and are having a tendency towards finger pointing in order to save their 'reputation', as there is alot of back stabbing going on. Attitudes are getting very negative

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more skip level meetings to learn about middle and lower management.

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay is above average, lots of vacation time, my location is nice, employees nice and stick together in your team.

    Cons

Workload is impossible...set you up to fail right out of the gait. Measurements are unrealistic and if you question things they will continue to repeat " there are lots of people who apply here everyday looking for this same job you have". Manage by intimidation in the one on one meetings with you. Always feel like you are about to get fired- and I mean everyday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave the people alone and let them do their jobs. You have good employees there that care and can do a great job - if you would just let them.

Peers are great to work with. Management refuses to evolve and recognize talent

I have been working at Travelers Companies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Work/Life Balance
    - Great Benefits
    - Market Share Leader in most business segments
    - Great coworkers

    Cons

    - Review process is subjective and isn't reliant upon actual results
    - Management is narcissistic - they will never admit they made a mistake or attempt to learn from someone below them
    - If you are in your 20's or coming in out of college, you won't get fair recognition for many years. Seniority is half of the review process. If you do a wonderful job, hit all your goals, and exceed expectations, you will still get a lower raise/bonus than an older employee w/ the same position. . . just because you are young... discriminatory

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be humble. Understand that the younger generation is very quick on their feet and hardworking. Admit mistakes. If you have a young finance major who is killing it, understand that that new employee most likely knows more about finance than you... especially if they graduated recently and you never took a finance class in your life.
