Extremely Poor Training / Covert Employee Rating System

Former Employee - Claim Adjuster in Walnut Creek, CA

    Pros

Sadly, I was incredibly disappointed with the lack of training and development at this particular office. During my tenure, I discovered that Travelers has an internal rating system for all it's employees. This rating system is never disseminated to the actual employee and may be significantly different from what is relayed to the employee during their annual employment review. I believe this covert system is designed to facilitate the growth and movement of certain "desirable" employees. In any case, it's highly unethical and the legalities of which are questionable at best.

    Cons

    Great base pay and benefits.

    Extremely Disappointed....

Former Employee - Field Adjuster  in  North Richland Hills, TX
Former Employee - Field Adjuster in North Richland Hills, TX

    Pros

Salary, benefits, liked helping people. HAD a good Market Share....

    Cons

Intentionally under-staffed. BAD upper mgmt with UNREALISTIC DEMANDS! New Upper Manager came aboard and demanded all Property Field Adjusters, who were way overloaded to begin with and being forced to cover multi-territories, now handle ALL Contents losses BEFORE ever writing a Building Estimate for repairs; even Fires! "First Call Settlements" (FCS),mandatory with NO excuses; No Signal, Settlement Authority way below assigned loss amounts, No approval from UM, UM would not approve without first seeing estimate (that could not be uploaded or UM was busy elsewhere while adjuster sitting at loss with Insured on their 30 minute lunch break and next Appointments waiting with their contractor, and upset b/c of demands for FCS's....

UM would brag on a "golden employee" who always traveled multi-territories and met all expectations. Asked to ride with that employee to show us how they accomplished the impossible, but something ALWAYS came up on day of demonstration... (Tells you something). Intimidation with threats of termination for not being able to accomplish impossible goals. HUGE Turnover. I/T system needed a LOT of improvement. LOTS of Employee Turn-Over including UM's bailing out. (Tells you something)... Could have been a great place to work, but extreme Micro-Management was needed to maintain Employee Turn-Over. Last I looked, in CO, they had a "D" Rating! Agent(s) reportedly fed up and dropping writing business due to POOR Customer Service implemented by Upper Management. Policy that a large number of Work Force was REUIRED to be on "Written Notice" even if jobs were intentionally impossible to accomplish. Did I mention Intimidation to accomplish IMPOSSIBLE demands by working late evenings, nights, and Weekends with NO O/T pay? Very Anti-Family oriented.....

Refusal to Change and make a better work environment. Not enough sense to consider other competitor's failed "trails" and who had learned that the Company is only as good as their Employees! Moto was "Numbers Don't Lie". True... So look at the HUGE "Numbers" of Employee Turn-Overs! Long time Employees would tell you that Travelers "USED" to be a great place to work, then they were ran off.... (Again, tell you something...)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire those in Upper Management who can't figure out what is Realistic and NOT Realistic. Hire someone who has been in the field! Have enough sense to quit demanding more work than a person can possibly handle! Example: You just don't hire a 20 year full time house painter to design and maintain your IT system.
