Pros

Great benefits; open promotion possibility; mgrs seem to really want to help employees grow; Get to interact with a variety of business and people

Cons

Can become very time intensive. Sometimes Upper mgmt focuses on minor issue not related to the claim itself. "What was the tire pressure?" questions like that

Advice to Management

Too much time in meetings that go on tangents. Not enough time for work. Some goals are focused on abstract things.

    Pros

I always thought of The Travelers as being a very slow moving company that was resistant to change but that can be a great company to work for during a tough economy. The Travelers stuck with a proven approach which worked for them. The work demands were average. I found coworkers to be very devoted although The St. Paul employees were still adjusting to The Travelers culture.

    Cons

The Travelers was not very interested in pleasing the customer which could be frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Create a better culture for employee initiative. The Travelers seemed to be old school and not give much tolerance for creative thought in the field.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The pay is supposed to be "market competitive." You work individually for the most part with assistance from a senior position. Your supervisor does not check punctuality and you are encouraged to take breaks throughout the day. The training program is in depth and the company is a cash cow leading to positive job security.

    Cons

The pay is supposed to be competitive; however you will soon find that corporate bureaucracy will keep the talented under and the abusers above. Standard promotions, which include pay raises, are often missed due to poor management. Career advancement is supposed to be a ladder system of Trainee, Associate, and Account Executive within a reasonable time of training but the supervisor is ultimately responsible for "entering" eligible employees prior to promotional dates. Promotions occur semi-annually. Although TRV promotes organic growth, a poor rapport with a direct supervisor will hinder your growth opportunities despite positive relationships with other management.

    Advice to Management

Insurance may be in a small industry but retaining young talent will promote future growth stability. Be sure to consider them for merit bonus pools even if your own department's controllable income increases.
