I worked at Trinity College Dublin full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Great place to do research - I was working on a european research project. Great if you are doing a PhD at the same time like I was.

Cons

Administration - boss was unstructured and highly emotional. Made honest communication impossible and the experience much harder to manage than it should have been. Also put a lot of unneeded stress into my life.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Monitor managers and have a blind review of research management

I have been working at Trinity College Dublin

    Pros

    Great resources (equipment, reagents).
Lots of smart people, opportunities to teach or take courses in subjects that might benefit career later on.

    Cons

No career progression possibilities for PostDocs. Limited communication between departments. IS Services makes life harder rather than easier. Admin staff are complacent and take months to process anything. Since it is near impossible to get rid of non-performing people in public service, lots of "dead weight" around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get rid of non-performers.
