TripAdvisor – “Good place, but "unique" culture that's not for everyone”
4 of 4 people found this helpfulPros
Progressive organization that moves fast and gives employees lots of responsibility. Company isn't afraid to take risks and will test new ideas quickly. You can get a lot done at TripAdvisor which is very satisfying and empowering.
Cons
Employees are held to very high standards at TripAdvisor. On one hand this is great b/c you don't work w/ slouches....on the other hand, this creates a very competitive internal culture which can become overbearing if you stay there for a while.
Like any organization, some managers are better than others. TripAdvisor has highly intelligent and well-educated leadership, but some of its management over-indexes on intelligence and falls short on traditional management and people skills (like a great surgeon w/ crappy bedside manner).
Just do your research beforehand and make sure you're comfortable with who you'll be reporting to on a daily basis. Management will put a lot of pressure on you to perform, so just make sure you're comfortable working under those conditions day in and day out.
Advice to Senior Management
Would it really kill you to smile every once in a while and ask your employees how they're doing (and genuinely want to hear an answer back)?
