Pros

As manager, you operate your store mostly without outside interference.
Corporate gives you goals, schedules trucks, and gives hours, but you decide the projects based on your store needs. Stay on top of projects and you will do great.
You must be self-motivated, and build your team.

Cons

Low payroll hours means the manager may have to put in more hours than the minimum of 45.
May inherit a store with poorly trained employees. Focus is on recovery and customer service which takes away from the projects that will sometimes sit on the back burner way too long.
Not alot of involvement from upper management means you also don't get alot of needed support.
Company has no programs in place to retain good workers. They would rather rehire for positions than keep the people in place who do their job.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bonus program that filters to the hourly employees. Pay on performance. Try to give raises that will keep up with the rate of inflation.
Quarterly, increase store hours so managers can work on long needed projects. Just a few extra hours for a couple of weeks would do. Practice more giving of the good instead of always taking away.
Motivate the managers instead of always trying to knock them down. Quarterly visits should be to both recognize what's good as well as set goals.

    Cons

Too much expected for the pay.Only place I have ever worked that you had to strip an wax floors, with no extra payroll for help. Had to rent Uhaul trucks and move merchandise from one store to another, with no extra payroll.Delivery system sucks, POS is a joke.Even the new system is 15 years out of date.Get hurt on the job and you are a criminal.

I worked at Tuesday Morning full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My associates were great. They deserved a lot more than $7.50 an hour.

    Cons

The attitude of this company has always been "do more with less," to the point of ridiculousness. They give you the bare minimum of payroll (as others have noted) and expect miracles. The majority of work falls on the salaried store manager, who spends more time unloading trucks, picking up after customers, cleaning floors and bathrooms, etc, than actually *managing* anything. Training is not adequate, and upper management is inconsistent and arbitrary in their decisions. No one seems to know what they are doing, and no one takes responsibility for anything. I have also seen some very questionable labor practices mandated by regional and zone managers - when these unethical behaviors are questioned, HR does nothing. Incompetence is the rule with Tuesday Morning, yet all of the blame falls on the store level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act together. Newsflash to corporate - we are not wizards. If you want the stores to look good and actually be competitive, you are going to need to provide resources and payroll to achieve that. An overworked, bitter and stressed out staff does not provide good customer service. There is a reason your customers are shopping elsewhere. Either commit to making your stores a great place, or just shut down and take the loss. Treat your employees better, and actually take a look at what your zones and regionals are doing for a change.
