Pros

There is a good benefits package that is still being improved. A nice garage to park at and an understandable management team. Good people to work around.

Cons

Lots of meetings which can make it hard to get work done. Actions takes a lot of time to get done due to those meetings.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the meeting culture of the company. Also, make sure that when things are tasked to get done, that someone reviews the actions to make sure they were done.

    Pros

Very Diverse. Have diverse council to celebrate all holidays and nationalities. Keeps employees involved in company events as well as celebrations on a job well done. Excellent benefits. Promotes and encourages job growth within company.

    Cons

Communication issues between the departments. Policies are prematurely implemented before throroughly reviewed. Too many "gray area" policies. Some managers lacks consistancies in work flows. Others lack accurate information.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Send a daily update to ALL employees so new information is not surprising and confusing. Let all learn basic information about how policies work and not the basic general minimum. Try to question the ideas people have instead of just going with it.

I worked at Tufts Health Plan full-time

    Pros

    1. Creative benefits to keep you healthy: In-house gym ($), subsidized salad bar, in-house Nurse Practitioner, fitness competitions; in-house massage and acupuncture ($)
    2. Good communication from corporate leaders
    3. Relaxed work atmosphere
    4. Free garage and bicycle cage

    Cons

    1. Actuarial Department lacks leadership
    2. Dept always looking to hire talented analysts (so they don't have to do training), but doesn't have much to offer for talented workers. You are hired to copy and paste numbers into the same report each month. Good people quickly move along, while those who lack drive linger on.
    3. When analysts offer ideas to improve department, department management makes excuses and, in one instance, a leader literary started crying
    4. Department management communicates that analysts are not important (consistently running 20 minutes late to each meeting; forgetting to announce new employees to department; taking months to recognize exam success and actuarial credentialing; scheduling a call during a presentation that they(!) and their reports are giving to the department)
    6. Department doesn't place importance in developing communication and leadership skills in actuaries
    7. Department professes to have a rotation program, but does not want to be inconvenienced. In a few rare cases, have accommodated requests to move to a new position.
    8. Some actuarial analysts report to non-actuaries and so do not get the type of development that comes from interacting frequently with an experienced actuary

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I appreciate the effort you put into communicating with the company. And despite all the complaints about the benefits, I think that you have done a very good job in providing a balanced benefits package. You can expect more people leadership from your top actuarial management.
