Current Employee - Research Technician in Boston, MA

I have been working at Tufts University full-time for less than a year

Pros

-Good benefits including vacation, personal days, etc
-Free Tufts undergrad or grad level courses

Cons

-Salary is not competitive with other similar positions in Boston
-3 month grace period for vacation, personal days, and courses is non-negotiable

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I've been denied tuition remission due to the 3-month probationary period and must now pay $2400 for a course that, had I been hired slightly earlier would be free. At least covering the last 2 months of the course after my probationary period ends would have made sense, but not covering it at all does not.

I worked at Tufts University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

As a work-study student in the Communications Department, you can form valuable relationships with Professors outside the classroom. Often times, there are unique opportunities that wouldn't crop up anywhere else.

    Cons

All things considered, the pay is pretty low. Even though the federal government is picking up part of the tab for your paycheck, don't expect to be making much above the minimum wage.
