I worked at Tufts University full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

flexible schedule, casual environment, some good benefits

    Cons

Disorganized. The vacation, paid holidays and especially salary are not on par with other area universities. Their "exempt vs non-exempt" is a joke. Not exempt employees are required to report that they only worked x hours, regardless of how many hours they actually work. Which is basically the set-up of exempt employees, however, the latter have higher salaries, more vacation and better benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow your own policies. This practice is unethical and demoralizing.

  2. Non-profit university means you can do what's right instead of what's profitable, but very very slowly.

I have been working at Tufts University full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Generous hours and leave; 35 hour weeks, 4 weeks vacation, unlimited sick time.
    Stable employment.

    Cons

Pay is not on par with commercial industry. Consensus and group-think drive decision making. Progress on any collaborative task is incredibly slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire middle management that has commercial expertise; not primarily from other universities. Focus on actionable results that benefit the majority over 100% agreement.
