Current Employee - Intern  in  Atlanta, GA
Current Employee - Intern in Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Turner Broadcasting as an intern for less than a year

Pros

Organized, people were easy to get to know and very personable. I felt well-trained but had a good deal of independence.

Cons

Some intern tasks seem arbitrary and monotonous. Working in a cubicle all day can be a bummer. People were generally sociable and nice

I have been working at Turner Broadcasting full-time

    Pros

Still trying to figure out the pros for working here

    Cons

Ted Turner's way of treating his people are long gone. LOW Salary and Horrible Management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop living in the past successes of the company, it is okay to adapt to the changing seasons while maintaining the integrity of the company. Your brand is nothing without the people behind the scene yet you treat them as if they're worthless and insignificant to the company. Your salary is not competitive, your benefits are not beneficial when the employee has to pay most of it out of pocket and your perks are not that great. This is why people leave the company.

I worked at Turner Broadcasting full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Adequate benefits which you won't have time to use due to 24 by 7 culture.

    Cons

Expected to be available at all times since that would reduce the bonus for management if they hired more staff.

Technical management has never worked anywhere but Turner. A lack of knowledge about other methods of performing functions and goals isn't acquired.

Bullying, harassing managers are merely moved onto exciting projects where they can continue their behavior rather than be fired. HR has no power in technical areas. In the nearly 7 years I was there, we had over 7 different HR reps.

Lack of trained technical staff results in senior technical people having to get up in the middle of the night to deal with minor issues.

Service delivery managers and their staff are directing technical solutions for which they are not competent to be making.

Technology Services has no architects; but, senior engineering staff is expected to perform architecture, engineering and operations activities.

Monitoring staff is unable to handle service requests after hours that are normally handled by the Call Center during business hours.

50% turnover in staff in major support areas.

New technology is implemented with no training; yet, is expected to be able to support products.

A review of service tickets would reveal that only certain members of staff are addressing service requests.

Some technical staff have been working on projects and not addressing daily operations work for over 5 years.

Lack of recognition for implementing a major project with little or no assistance that directly impacted major infrastructure servers and the majority of Windows OS workstations and laptops.

Infighting amongst and between teams encouraged by Service Director, so that no one asks what value he brings by hiding in his office all day.

Culture of repercussions for stating there are issues that should be addressed and making recommendations to do so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Terminate the CIO and CTO as both of them are incompetents that were hired by an executive that was fired for sexual harassment. The CIO was informed of the issues over 7 years ago and has taken no action.

Terminate the SVP of Technology Services. He has known of the issues for years.

Note that I am the person that commented on the survey that Technology Services never asked our clients what they expected of us and that was determined to be one of the major goals for the entire service organization in 2009. So Turner senior management must have thought I knew the area very well.
