Turner Broadcasting – “Very good company to work for, but very little movement or interaction between departments.”
Pros
The company is really good in terms of benefits, competitive salaries (on the business side at least), a company outing at least once a year, transportation reiumbursement, employee discounts at stores, gyms, etc.
Overall, the people here are great, and seem very happy working here. Turner does a good job about making employees feel good about working here, and makes efforts to encourage life/work balance. In the last year, HR has done a good job about bringing more programs to work, like yoga and weight watchers.
The office environment is business casual, and while office hours are 8:30 - 5:30, there are summer Fridays and perks like that.
Cons
It's difficult to move up based on merit alone, rather promotions are given to those who have "stuck it out" longer than others. For some upper management roles, there is little turnover, and these people have been here for over a decade. The company needs some fresh ideas, new blood.
From what I've seen, there is also little interaction between various departments, and people can't move between groups that easily as I haven't seen too much hiring from within.
There is very little help in terms of career development, or graduate school aid.
Advice to Senior Management
Smart move finally letting AOL go, and for the company to be doing this well during a recession, then they must be doing something right.
