Current Employee - Project Engineer  in  New York, NY
Current Employee - Project Engineer in New York, NY

Pros

Some call it sink or swim philosophy but at the end of the day, Turner is very good at providing a solid foundation for training it's younger employees. Also, the more responsibilities you ask for, the more you will get. Also, most of upper management have an open door policy, which is unlikely in big companies.

Cons

The hours are long and people burn out way too easily. In addition, people who are not promoted within the company never fully integrate themselves into the Turner way. Unfortunately, people who then work for such people, never fully learn the Turner system. It's a domino effect in a way.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Within a project team, any member should have the opportunity to review anyone on their team, especially their supervisor. This will provide a very much needed form of checks and balances.

    Pros

Great benefits and some great people. Management can be very helpful and supportive.

    Cons

Most management are middle aged white guys who talk diversity but don't walk the walk. Women are very seldom in management roles here, and this is across the board nationally, not just at my business unit. Management doesn't communicate well with their employees and they very seldom offer praise for a job well done. The evaluation system here is sub par and needs improvement. If you're not part of the click or good ole boy network, your ability to move up in the company can be stymied.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More diversity in management. They should pay better attention to the employees who are doing great work out there and being largely ignored.
