I worked at Tushaus Computer Services

Pros

The only positive reason to work at Tushaus was for the pay. I received fair market value for my skills. However, most of my coworkers were underpaid, with the exception of a few that were way overpaid.

Cons

The management at Tushaus is sinking the ship. This is a very top-heavy organization with a very strong "good old boy" network running the show. The CEO/Primary owner/Founder, Gregg Tushaus, is a generally a good person. However, he has not adapted to the times and appears to have completely withdrawn himself from his consulting company and is almost totally focused on his job at MCW. This makes sense since he has made plenty of money with the consulting firm and doesn't know how to take it to the next level, so why bother with it?

The new president, Jack Gebhardt, brought in near the end of 2008/beginning of 2009 has absolutely no idea how to run an consulting organization. He has run all the top talent out of the company and demotivated the few that remain. He brought in his own staff of senior management to attempt to right the ship but has failed so far because they continue to undermine him and recklessly make decisions. But that doesn't matter that much because if the company followed Jack Gebhardt's vision they would be in just as bad shape, if not worse anyways. How can an IT Consulting company be properly run if the President doesn't know a thing about the IT Consulting world and IT industry trends!

The Engineering team used to be focused heavily on project based work. This has changed dramatically in the last 12 months. They are now almost entirely reliant on managed services and helpdesk work. Almost all large organizations in Wisconsin with any money to spend on IT know to avoid Tushaus like the plague, unless they only need simple work and don't mind overpaying.

The only hope for this company is a complete purge of the incompetent senior management, increased financial incentives and more power to the sales team, and hope that they don't scare away the few good engineers they have left.

The rest of Wisconsin IT Consulting market is recovering nicely from the economic downturn but Tushaus continues to lose money at record pace. I wouldnt be suprised if this company shuts its doors within the next 12-18 months since change is not likely and the bleeding will continue.

Do not go and work for them, the name Tushaus on your resume will expedite your future job applications trip to the recycle bin.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on sales, sales, sales. They are the key to stabilizing this organization. Proven IT leaders are needed to replace the incompetent senior management staff. Organizational direction needs to be aligned with industry trends. Total staff reevaluation needs to be conducted by an outside management consulting firm. Don't just dip your toes in the water of outside management help, jump in and bring proven professionals in to fix your mistakes!

I have been working at Tushaus Computer Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Slowly starting to weed out the top and mid level managers who were of no value

    Cons

A lot of work ahead of them, rebranding would certainly help but only after they have the players and processes in place to not fall back into old habits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify those employees who "Go Beyond" and promote within before reaching out. Follow through correcting the problems at hand before moving forward and realizing new ones.

I worked at Tushaus Computer Services full-time

    Pros

Tushaus Computer Services has a lot of talented workers. Many of those who work for the company, put forth their best effort.

    Cons

If you are looking to work at Tushaus Computers, do not count on much career advancement. The company likes to hire over-qualified workers from outside the company, but does not train internal employees for career advancement. I have seen many qualified staff, passed up for promotions because they cannot meet some impossible benchmark, so many positions have high turnover. I think many workers stay because of the poor economy, but as soon as it improves, many will leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I recommend grooming internal staff for upward mobility, instead of hiring from outside the company. Technical skill sets can be improved, but you cannot train someone to have good work ethic.
