Former Employee - Senior Principal Software Engineer  in  San Diego, CA
Former Employee - Senior Principal Software Engineer in San Diego, CA

Pros

(at this location) Good team, decent pay, interesting work.

Cons

Many people told me to expect the job to go away. Sure enough, one day they started shipping the work offshore. They also bought a small company for new technology (such as it was) rather than have the existing experience team continue to develop the new generation of product. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of our work. This team is completely gone now.

Not an engineering company. Its run by beancounters on some other coast.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are not just expenses on your spreadsheets that can be replaced by anybody. The spreadsheet doesn't show the intangibles, such as experience with the product, customers, etc.

    Pros

If your looking for a good paycheck this is the place to be. If you enjoy a good work location this is also a plus.

    Cons

Pettiness and power plays at the director level and above, much political infighting resulting in mismanaged reorganizations. Layoffs were handled very badly. One guy I knew didnt find out until he had worked half the day after he came in from vacation his position was eliminated. Constant fear of layoffs. Upper management typically says one things and does another, internal survey showed very clearly there was no trust. Poor balance of work assignments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire your entire upper management senior staff and get a new one.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Los Angeles, CA

    Pros

Co-workers are great. Most people stay around because they like the other workers on their level.

    Cons

Management is horrible. Everything revolves around their EBIT (profit) bonus. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it is given priority over long term effects. Since salespeople are paid on overall sales numbers, they jack them up so it's not possible to meet bonus quota. This means more EBIT bonus to upper management because of less payroll. Some salespeople have grown their areas over 10% per year yet their income goes down!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put everyone on the same bonus plan!
