Pros

complex business challenges to keep the saw sharp. Success is based on relationship strategies so those with strong people skills succeed. Good opportunities to engage with senior management.

Cons

decentralized management decisions and operations models makes it difficult to gain traction with strategies. Company also has busines level objectives but corporate support is difficult due to different (and potentially conflicting) strategies.

Advice to Management

Increase communications, provide multi-year strategies, minimally, for business units, would also like to see longer term objectives for the company.

    Pros

(at this location) Good team, decent pay, interesting work.

    Cons

Many people told me to expect the job to go away. Sure enough, one day they started shipping the work offshore. They also bought a small company for new technology (such as it was) rather than have the existing experience team continue to develop the new generation of product. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of our work. This team is completely gone now. Not an engineering company. Its run by beancounters on some other coast.

    Advice to Management

Employees are not just expenses on your spreadsheets that can be replaced by anybody. The spreadsheet doesn't show the intangibles, such as experience with the product, customers, etc.

    Pros

If your looking for a good paycheck this is the place to be. If you enjoy a good work location this is also a plus.

    Cons

Pettiness and power plays at the director level and above, much political infighting resulting in mismanaged reorganizations. Layoffs were handled very badly. One guy I knew didnt find out until he had worked half the day after he came in from vacation his position was eliminated. Constant fear of layoffs. Upper management typically says one things and does another, internal survey showed very clearly there was no trust. Poor balance of work assignments.

    Advice to Management

Fire your entire upper management senior staff and get a new one.
