Tyco – “Limited to no organizational support for career development. Negative sub-cultures beginning to rear their ugly head

Aug 18, 2009

2.0

Tyco Manager in Princeton, NJ:   (Current Employee)

Pros

4 weeks vacation (office is closed between Christmas and New Years). Very competitive salary if you negotiate properly at the beginning but unless you are seen as indispensable, don't expect much in terms of a raise or promotion.

Cons

Limited to no team atmosphere across the corporate headquarters, especially within the tax and finance groups. Team atmosphere's exist intermittently but they are small, few and far between. Negative office politics are currently at an all time high in some departments. Zero organizational support for career development within the Corporate Tax department. Work / life balance is preached often but there is no follow through with ensuring that middle / lower management adheres.

Advice to Senior Management

Tyco HR needs to become more involved in the company culture. There are several sub-cultures that exist amongst the newer and younger employees that does not bode well for the company from an ethics and productivity standpoint. Large sense of entitlement by some is beginning to spoil the culture. A commitment to team building activities is an absolute must, ASAP.
