    Pros

    Hours are flexible. Alot of freedom to make decisions and there are opportunities to move up.

    Cons

    Pay not worth the amount of work load. Not much you can do since it is result based pay at a moving company.

    I have been working at U-Haul full-time

    Pros

    Lots of turnover = opportunity?

    Cons

    The rental equivalent of Wal-Mart -- rigorously anti-union (have shut down entire shop plantations over it). The payroll is absolutely embarrassing and ensures that the totality of things to be completed will never actually happen, which means that blame must be placed somewhere on the retail level. Center was given enough to payroll to run the entire operation with just me and a single counter person MOST OF THE TIME. At the time I was hired, I realized I was one of many, as 95% of the GMs in the entire region had not been there more than 10 months or so.
     If someone wants a hitch done you are supposed to drop everything and either the manager or counter person is expected to be able to do it. That's right, they will tell you to your face that anyone working there with zero mechanical experience will be held liable for the quality of the piece of steel they are often drilling in, and the wiring that they are splicing in to a customer's car. You will be given no mechanic at all, and be expected to actually maintain a fleet of 60something pieces of rental equipment with a series of part-timers making 10/hr.
     They expect you to "manage 30% of the time," the rest being regular old manual labor: cleaning trucks, working the counter, hooking up trailers, installing wiring on someone's personal vehicle. Trucks will regularly be gone for a month to get any kind of repair done because the off-site shop is absolutely swamped, at their own admittance. And if it goes there and something's not actually wrong then they will look at you, the mechanic-less manager, and act like it is your fault.
    They want to believe they are special and that it takes some kind of "special U-Haul person" to get in with their little game. This is really just another way of saying 'no one wants this job for a reason.' There is a reason why 7 different GMs were fired in 7 weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    You are not special, and believing so is just a way of excusing yourself from that facts that are plain to see for the rest of society. They are laughing at you.
