I worked at U.S. Cellular

Pros

A lot of opportunity for advancement. They also have a decent compensation structure for leaders and a very generous benefits package. It is a true learning environment. They focus on associate development and stress the importance of always growing in your position.

Cons

The changes over the past year have set off a fire storm of reorganization. Sales reps compensation package is competative but the lack of traffic made it hard for them to hit goals. The company is not growing at a fast enough rate. The culture can be a good and bad thing. Many good employees let go for things that weren't major offenses. Very easy for leadership to be let go.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on growth but don't cut the throats of your front line employees. cut some of the fat in the senior leadership area. There are a lot of leaders in the RSO who have no idea what the business actually looks like on the front line. get more feedback and ideas from your field leaders (and not just your Chicago area leaders).

I have been working at U.S. Cellular

    Pros

Umm its a job, they pay you (decent pay), and you get benefits. If you have a good local manager, which I do, then you are fine on reviews/feedback/time off etc. Otherwise, upper-management in the MidCentral Region (Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa) is horrible and on a path to make it worse

    Cons

They have a incredible Belief & Value structure with-in the company, but they don't LIVE those beliefs. Everyone in upper-management is a YES person, they get there by kissing butt and telling their manager how awesome their ideas are (thats how you get promoted). If you disagree, then they will find a way to get rid of you. Store Sales Associates have it worse, there are a handfull of rules that you can break and literally be fired on the spot, NO SECOND CHANCE, your just done. And unfortunately, you come across those situations on a daily basis. Associates are most important (they deal with customers) then 2nd would be "middle-managment" (sales managers, account executives, account managers, business development). The middle managers work hard to keep the business afloat, and the upper-management come up with ridiculous ideas to rip it down.. Also being held back are our Agent Store Locations, they get nothing and horrible treatment.. I overall give the company about 3 years, they won't be around much longer. Or at least not in the form that we see today.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the people around you and take a long look at yourself. The "right" thing isn't to just pat yourself on the back and the people above you. Your decisions are flawed, your marketing is the worst in the business, and i give the company 3 years tops..
