Former Employee - Project Manager in Chicago, IL

I worked at U.S. General Services Administration full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Excellent ability to be your "own boss" when performing your duties. You get to plan your work and report only as needed as long as you don't get in trouble or break the law and rules.

Cons

Changing directions at times without notice to the local level. Many times the Central Office sends out changes without advance notification and not well communicated.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better Communications to all affected participants as changes are contemplated and make sure everyone that needs the information gets it

I worked at U.S. General Services Administration full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

GSA provides services to many Federal agencies in multiple disciplines, including IT, space management, buildings management, supply services, transportation, and contracting. The services GSA provides to others allows them to concentrate on their primary missions. Achieving such results is very satisfying.

    Cons

Given it's behind-the-scenes activities, GSA may not always receive the recognition that it has earned for its accomplishments. At the same time, those who benefit directly from GSA's efforts know who to thank.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support and recognize all staff for their efforts. Try to remain apolitical in conducting your mission.
