I have been working at UBS full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

With so many locations you can move around to different locations.

Cons

Management varies greatly across divisions and teams. Getting a good manager is the luck of the draw as there is no real standard around management. While employees are reviewed managers are not.

Advice to Management

Create a standard for management as well as employees.

    Cons

The banking system is saturated, over-regulated and moving very slowly. There are far more dynamic areas to be employed.

  2. Poor company culture and incompetent middle management

I have been working at UBS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Worked with a few talented individuals who are equally disgruntled by the poor culture - Competitive salary for back office employees

    Cons

    - Middle management micromanages, lies, threatens and mistreats their subjects - Employees are overworked (constantly work nights and weekends) and undervalued - Excessive and unnecessary politics and in-fighting between FTEs and consultants (even at entry-level) - Top management discourages honest feedback - Low company morale breeds many disgruntled employees and leads to poor performance

    Advice to Management

Set up one on ones, and spend some time with the bottom employees to understand their thoughts and needs. Pay attention to the top-heavy management structure, and stop the one-dimensional thinking to cut down costs through layoffs. Stop bringing in lying, incompetent vendors and contractors that hurt the company in the long run.
