    Pros

Huge university, many different departments if you don't like the one you're in, good benefits. Some jobs are unionized, some not. Interesting perks, like free lunchtime concerts, presentations on different topics, etc.

    Cons

Bureaucracy is cast in stone. Hard for mgmt to reward employees with raises, given set job titles with set salaries, etc. Working with doctors, surgeons, post-docs, can be difficult depending on their specific personalities. Some are quite demeaning, even bullying, to staff members. Since they 'bring in the bucks', they generally get away with it.

    Advice to Management

Create more options for employee rewards - cash awards, bonuses, etc. since salaries are generally lower than market. Encourage managers to support/empower their staff members with development and training opportunities.
