    Pros

Famous professors, cutting edge research, good on resume, very good if you are considering grad / professional school. Good benefits.

    Cons

Low pay, work experience largely dependent on how involved is the PI, can be fast paced or can be slow throughout. The security of the job is dependent on PI's ability to win over grant funding.

  2. It all depends on who you know.

    Pros

If you are able to build a decent network, you can go far within the university.

    Cons

Unqualified individuals in key positions, which would never fly in the corporate work sector.
