A support network of long-term staff that are not always motivated and a cumbersome HR.

Cut down on the outrageous 'retention pay' schemes. No one is irreplaceable - especially in management.

    Famous professors, cutting edge research, good on resume, very good if you are considering grad / professional school. Good benefits.

    Cons

    Low pay, work experience largely dependent on how involved is the PI, can be fast paced or can be slow throughout. The security of the job is dependent on PI's ability to win over grant funding.
