Pros

Great place to work. State of the art facilities and great scientists and medical professionals and doctors to work with.

Cons

The University should have more housing opportunities in the vicinity for research professionals.

    Pros

My co-workers were generally congenial and my supervisor was excellent. Smart people. Some interesting research.

    Cons

Like the rest of academia, they are increasingly hard-up for funds. Some research is on topics often considered pseudoscientific (acupuncture). If you have worked in research elsewhere, you are likely familiar with the pressure to obtain significant results.

  2. Highly decentralized environment without a true recruiting team.

    Pros

Excellent employee benefits. Both the research and school are world-class.

    Cons

If in middle management or below major salary disparity between employees and management. Additionally, no training development opportunities or succession planning. Employees have to take the initiative, but many just get stuck doing the same positions for many years. As a result of the salary disparity, UCSF is unable to attract the A players so innovation is lacking.
