I have been working at UC San Francisco full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

World-class medical school and research institution, many different disciplines and cultures offer myriad opportunities to do different kinds of work. Changing the way health care is practiced, working to cure disease.

Cons

Huge organization: each department is an island and highly matrixed, which can make it a difficult environment to navigate. Important areas of infrastructure (research administration, HR, IT) are not being provided sufficient resources to do an increasing amount of work, leading to frustration of both staff and customers.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build infrastructure to help support the research.

I have been working at UC San Francisco full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

UCSF Mission Bay has fantastic resources such as gym facilities, housing and general information on how to better navigate life in the Bay Area.

    Cons

The graduate student salaries are not in line with the cost of living in SF. Thus, it can be very challenging to survive in the city (or in any commuter city)
