I worked at UDR as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Atmosphere in the IT group is very collegal. The attitude was always positive. I never once saw a blame session. Consumer of IT were very appreciative of the work effort.

    Cons

Processes and procedures for project management were non-existent. This led to constant fire drill exercises and a "READY! FIRE! AIM!" project management style in IT. IT management does not have very good control over vendors. This led to exttreme demands on time when one was on call. There were times when I got multiple calls per night several nights in a row while on call but was still expected to produce at work the next day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a program manager and give that person real power. Get control of your vendors

I worked at UDR full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Awesome support staff at corporate offices. Good opportunities to move to other states, nationwide holdings. Good benefits including employee stock options. The company has branched out into higher cost markets and nicer communities.

    Cons

Not much personal recognition, corporate atmosphere, and publicly traded so many decisions are to benefit the stock holders, not necessarily the employees. No communities left under UDR in North Carolina.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.
