Former Employee - Clinical in Minneapolis, MN

I worked at UMPhysicians full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Caring staff and some management, great, interesting patients, access to lectures and learning in academic setting, opportunities to take initiative and contribute to greater organization

Cons

Minimal pay for work scope and expectations beyond what's reasonable for scheduled work hours. Communication from mgmt. is inconsistent. Workplace confidentiality - not always respected. Hiring decisions seem to select least costly person, high turn-over on staff & mgmt. levels

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more experienced staff and then listen to them, lots of wasted time developing soft skills and developing learning curve, be respectful of staff time in implementation of prioritized initiatives, changes; communicate more consistently.

    Pros

Most of the physicians are great to work with, you can learn many things from these brilliant minds. Some are aloof but most are personable.

    Cons

Micromanaged, disrespectful management; managers are controlling, you have to be in a clique to be successful in this organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your culture or other valuable employees will leave! Treat the employee as you want them to treat your patients.
