I have been working at UPS part-time for more than 5 years

Pros

-Job Security is rock solid
-Health Benefits
-College Tuition Assistance, up to $1,500 every 6 months
-Union Protection
-Free lawyer services (even for speeding tickets!)
-Company discounts

Cons

-Dangerous work environment
-Claim that safety is a number one priority, however, that is just PR legal BS to shield them from lawsuits.
-Harassment and coercion of injured workers
-Fail to provide safety gloves or hearing protection that other far less profitable labor firms provide.
-Health benefits don't kick in until 1 year now, versus 3 months in the prior contracts.
-Low starting pay

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If safety is your number one concern, put your money where your mouth is and provide safety gloves and hearing protection. I've had hand injuries and now tinnitus for the rest of my life because of these unsafe deficiencies. Other labor companies I have worked for provide these free of charge, yet UPS a Fortune 500 company is too poor to provide safety equipment when "Safety is our number one priority". Most laborers are barely paying the rent the first couple years working at such low wages and you expect them to pay for the "privilege" of working safely? Spend less on your laughable PCM info sessions and safety zone, and provide tangible safety equipment.

I have been working at UPS full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The benefits are good - particularly if you are a two-unit manager.

    Cons

Work/Life Balance: there is nothing balanced at UPS. You either work till you drop or don't work at all. Impossible goals are expected to be met and humiliation in front of peers is not uncommon when goals are not met. The workload and hours are unreasonable. Work/life balance is a foreign concept to management. Many managers and supervisors have been through divorces because of their responsibility to UPS. The management in the EBA Department micromanage their groups and overburden employees with too many reports, recaps, reviews, meetings and anything else that doesn't help grow the business. These reports are only used to cover the managers. If you mention it or disagree with their reasoning, you are targeted and removed as a disgruntled employee, regardless of you meeting goals.
