I worked at UPS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable company, stable financials and cutting edge technology in the industry

    Cons

no clear-cut career paths, outdated policy of promoting from within. Long working days with no overtime payments from supervisor level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look at why managers and supervisors are leaving for other opportunities elsewhere. I doubt your future depends on your human resources as most competent employees are dissatisfied with the way you treat them. Update your policies to reflect modern day trends, instead of relying on some Jim Casey philosophies which aren't relevant in 2013. Managers sacrifice top notch employees in advancement of their careers. There exist a practice of favoritism in the company where employees are promoted based on who laughs best with the manager. UPS is a solid company, financially, but I doubt negligence of attracting and retaining talent will help the company in being competitive in the long run.

I worked at UPS full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Young, talented team. Internal coworkers often very nice and a pleasure to work with. Leads, even managers often very competent when it comes to IT support.

    Cons

Technical background not sufficient. Program and webpage outdated, with lots of bugs. IT security faulty as well on many levels. Lots of unorthodox/creative solutions needed from agents to bypass system faults. Pay was ridiculous compared to work done. Work not distributed equally among agents, breaks less than promised. No pay negotiation when becoming 2nd level support, raise given only to those who were friendly with the management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not overload your people with work, and give them a raise once in a while, especially if they have more responsibilities and generally work more than others.
