Pros

A lot of autonomy is available if you are competent and willing to work hard. Worldwide projects available if you are interested in traveling.

Cons

Some of the local office bureaucracy and politics is irritating. But for a 50k employee company, it's not bad as a whole.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep hiring good young people to train as your future leaders. Keep salaries at the top of the scale to maintain your best people.

I have been working at URS Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

For the right types of jobs, there are work opportunities all around the world. If you're willing to relocate wherever management asks, it might be a good company to work for long term.

    Cons

It's a very large company that's made up primarily of several legacy companies. Each legacy company does business in it's own way with little meaningful communication with other parts of the corporation. Any time there is work to be done that utilizes resources across divisions, it becomes a nightmare. And while much of senior management is comfortable living/working in their home cities, and have perhaps never relocated once for the company, they have the unrealistic expectation that lower level employees should be willing to pick up and move any time they're asked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Besides winning more large new contracts (which has become increasingly difficult for companies with such a heavy dependence on federal contracting), URS needs to place some serious focus in turning the company into a better cohesive unit between divisions.

I worked at URS Corporation full-time

    Pros

The company is involved in many aspects of today's economy and there are many good people working directly with customers.

    Cons

Not really a single corporation. Really more of a collection of individual companies not really working together. Management doesn't seem to follow "industry best practices" regarding leadership/HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow the policies that you promulgate and hold personnel accountable. Take more of an interest in the development of personnel especially since you claim they are your greatest asset.
