I have been working at URS Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Strong company, good executive decisions. Working here gives you the opportunity to work on a lot of big projects, dealing in many different types of engineering/planning projects. I work with a great team with really supportive managers, though not everyone here has that luxury (but you'll find that almost anywhere).

Cons

There can be turf wars, though you'll find that almost anywhere. It's also easy to get lost in the size of the company too. There's always a lot of acquisitions going on, so it just keeps growing and growing. But then, that expands opportunities as well. I've known some people in other groups that have had bad experiences with direct supervisors, but my experiences have luckily been great. Pay could be a little better, when you get your PE license you don't get a huge pay bump but they do what they can.

    Pros

    Good pay. Decent office facilities.

    Cons

If the company has behavior standards, they don't follow it. An unusual number of people with very bad behavior that is simply ignored, even by HR. Also seem to hire a lot of under-qualified employees who spend all day seeking out and harassing anyone with talent and emotional maturity. Promotion of at least one long-time employee who didn't have the skills to match, who then carefully ensured no one appeared more capable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The impression is that URS management is interested in their salary, not in bringing out the best in employees or even the company. Some effort is made, but there isn't enough involvement, too much focus on wanting to believe that other management staff has company's best interest in mind, but ensuring their job and salary is all they're interested in.

    Pros

Pretty flexible working hours. Good opportunities for advancement for those outside if Federal Services. Leave time is earned based on seniority. Many employee discounts available on retail purchases

    Cons

No sick days, personal days, etc. Very remote opportunities of telecommuting jobs. Lack of managerial support and involvement for federal services contractors.
