Pros

Great benefits ... fairly secure, though the two furloughs last year didn't help.

Cons

Not a lot of promotion opportunities. Have to fight for developmental education and training

Advice to Management

Empower your employees more -- give them the resources and clear direction they need, then give them the flexibility to execute.

    Pros

If you get the right career field, you may get valuable work experience (at least on paper). Education benefits are decent.

    Cons

Poor direction, lack of clear goals, lack of mentorship, general lack of professionalism in the workplace. Little or no professional development or respect given to junior members. Lack of critical analysis, lack of understanding of mental/emotional/spiritual wellness pillars.

    Advice to Management

Give first-line and mid-level leaders more autonomy. Provide clear goals to these levels, and work on building a culture that enforces the "soft" responsibilities of these positions. Don't try and accomplish this by writing new regulations and expecting that to be a fix. Really work on building the culture the right way.
