US Airways – “Turbulence”
Pros
The travel benefits are obvious. It's a youngish company that has potential. Most of the people I worked with love the industry and are really interested in performing well -- at least at the corporate office, which is where I worked.
Cons
The merger with America West brought a lot of baggage to Tempe. I was frustrated that the ability to move up was blocked by incompetent people who had been in their roles for decades. I think that a lot of the wrong people were in leadership positions in the organization, at least below senior management. The flight benefits also became harder to use as the industry reduced capacity.
Advice to Senior Management
Ditch the politics and move people up based on ability.
