Pros

Get control over your project.
Managers work hard for you.
Maintenance guys are (usually) really great.

Cons

A small percentage (very few) of the maintenance guys are really into union. It is to the point that you will get in trouble for saying hi to the wrong people. Most of the guys are great, but the few crazy ones are enough to drive you nuts.

Advice to Management

Keep up your hard work!

    Pros

Finally catching up to current technologies and getting rid of older hardware

    Cons

Underwent a re-org where they brought in 2 new managers from Mattel and tossed out a loyal senior manager. Loyalty is non-existent. Arbitrarily assigned UNIX engineers to operations and demoted multiple people throughout the department. 10 minutes of notice was given and it was very poorly handled. They are replacing tried and true technologies with just whatever they used at Mattel. The department has becoming a running joke in meetings with other IT groups.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. Just because somebody worked at Mattel doesn't make them more qualified than a good in-house candidate.
