Current Employee - O6 - Army - Colonel in Colorado Springs, CO

I have been working at US Army full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - Values based organization
    - Service before self
    - Unequaled training, development, opportunity
    - Fair compensation - super benefits
    - World wide locations to serve
    - It is a lifestyle, not a job; sense of community
    - Protect your nations and the values we hold dear

    Cons

The Army - or any of the services - can have a negative impact on family life. More than likely you will spend a fair amount of time away from you loved ones - for some, it may be more than a fair amount. Of course, it can be dangerous work.

You can certainly make more money on the outside - most don't go into the Services for the pay. However, the benefits and the intangibles are pretty good.

There are great leaders in the Army - and there are some not so great leaders. The Army is working to filter out the toxic leaders.
