I have been working at US Army (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great compensation. Don't believe all the hype about low pay. Yes, the pay is not the greatest, but what other career gives you free housing, free food, no to low cost medical, dental and vision? Yes you move around from time to time, but that is all paid also. Not to mention the 30 days paid vacation a year, along with Federal Holidays.

    Cons

In combat arms MOSs, you'll spend a lot of time in the field. Deployments can be a drag if you don't find a way to keep your mind occupied. Family time can sometimes be less than what most would want. Can be really hard on a family.

    Pros

Friendships and commarade with coworkers; peers have your back in stressful/deployment situations even if you just met them.

    Cons

Assignments in high cost of living areas with substandard housing allowances for lower enlisted soldiers.
