I worked at US Army full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Travel. Interesting jobs available. Potential for promotion and increasing responsibility for enlisted or officer rank. The job was, is, and always will be what you make of it. Do the best you can, with what you have, where you are and keep your integrity intact--do the right thing even if no one is looking. Rewards (promotions, awards, etc) will happen when a Soldier does these things. Unfortunately, not everyone does.

    Cons

Depending upon the job you choose there are risks.Right now there are economic concerns in our country and the military is not exempt. As noted above, there are Soldiers who aren't cut out for the military. These few will take a lot of everyone else's time and effort to insure they are moved out of the ranks. It can be a big distraction to the good order and discipline of a unit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at US Army

    Pros

The opportunity to serve your country. Good benefits, PX and commissary privileges. You receive a steady paycheck every two weeks. There is a great opportunity for advancement .. all you have to do is prove yourself worthy.

    Cons

Some units have inept management. Others like to micromanage. You are a salary worker, so you work whatever hours they want you to. Deployments are slowing down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't force out the good Soldiers during the drawdown.
