I worked at US Army full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

There is great opportunities for travel. Working with a diverse group of individuals and learning from each others strengths. Great chance for advancement and learning new skills.

Cons

There can be time when you are away from your family for extended periods of time.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The military is what you make of it. It has its good and bad moments, but it is an experience and bond you will cherish for life. I recently retired with 30 years and would not change a thing.

I worked at US Army full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Discipline, excellent training and development, leadership, too many to list. I learned more in the Army than in 15 years of schooling (High School + B.A.).

    Cons

If you get stuck in an MOS you do not like, it can be VERY difficult to reclass. This was the main reason I got out, after spending nearly 2 years applying for reclassification into some of the more high-speed jobs. Once they have you, they don't want you to leave (either the unit or your job class), so you can find yourself stuck. That being said, I wish I would have stayed in and kept trying! I got out on the promise of a direct active duty branch transfer to another service, now I'm stuck in the Reserves. GET THE JOB YOU WANT BEFORE YOU ENLIST, RETRAINING IS A SHOT IN THE DARK!
