Approves of CEO

Pros

Good graduate opportunities. Good chance to lead at a very junior level, so the first 10 years is pretty exciting.

Cons

The organization is top heavy due to low attrition. This makes it complicated to lead after being in the organization for 15 years, since most folks are over 20 with no where to go.

Advice to Management

Keep mid-grade officers in the field and reduce to size of HQ units. Additionally, officers and enlisted with more than 20 years active duty must be aggressively weeded out of the service if they are just retired on active duty.

    Pros

Health benefits are great, but can become quickly shadowed by the inability to move up the chain in some rates. They are very family friendly though.

    Cons

Management is poor. It is very political. Very few people seem to have the backbone to say what they know is right. Once you get to the Chief level there are no clear expectations (basically you can do nothing and get by just fine with that).

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a way to move people up the chain rather then by using a poor testing and perf eval. The test is ok, but the perf eval system is very poor. Everyone should have to work equal. Most places you get promoted and you have to work harder, but in the Coast Guard it is a little backwards.
