I have been working at US Coast Guard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Worthwhile mission supporting maritime safety and inland port security. Good atmosphere and camaraderie. Overall skilled leaders that look for opportunities to recognize performance.

    Cons

Budget limitations require shortcuts to meet mission requirements. Budgets are shrinking. Some personnel are dead weight. Some distance and lack of vision between front-line non-military personnel and upper management.

    Advice to Management

Stay closer to the front-line experts and listen to them. Communicate.
