I have been working at US Department of Defense full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Stable pay and good benefits.

    Cons

Working as a civilian for the military is rough. The military leaders do not know the requirements of civilian employees and often try to treat civilians like military members demanding things like relocation, crappy hours, working terrible shifts. They will push and push until you push back and then when you finally do what is right you are viewed as trouble

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn the rules of civilian employment

I have been working at US Department of Defense full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very secure and excellent pay with outstanding benefits. Good career development and training programs for DoD civilian personnel willing to seek out the opportunities and act on them.

    Cons

Limited promotion potential unless on is willing to apply for jobs outside of their current agency or geographic location. Pay freeze is in place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training is needed for military personnel in the education of civilian employees in the military work environment.
