I have been working at US Department of Defense full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Contractors and other DoD employees will bend over backwards to work with you and get what you need (so long as you have some face time with them).

    Cons

With so many faces in the crowd it's hard to stand out. Also rank is highly correlated with time in service--if you're a new guy, you're just a new guy no matter how much you excel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an eye out for real talent and keep in mind that while it's hard to find good talent it's even harder to find someone that can spot it! So if you see someone that can harvest talent from the applicant pool and make use of it put that person in a place they can hire folks as soon as possible.
